Navantia has launched on Wednesday, in their facilities in Ferrol (Galicia), the ship “Adelaide”, the second built for the Royal Australian Navy.
The launch takes place with four months in advance, providing additional time for the equipment and testing proccess until early 2014, in which the hull will be transported to Australia for completion and delivery to BAE Systems Australia in Williamstown.
The event was attended by Ambassador of Australia in Spain, Zorica McCarthy, who was accompanied by Vice President of SEPI, Federico Ferrer, and the CEO of Navantia, Jose Manuel Revuelta, besides the President of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, and the government representative in Galicia, Samuel Juarez. Joining them were the heads of the Armies of Australia and Spain, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs and General Admiral Manuel Rebollo, respectively.
The godmother was Maureen Banks, widow of Captain Norman Banks who for years commanded a ship that also carried the name of the Australian city of Adelaide.
